Former U.S. Rep. Susan Brooks will be returning to her alma mater, Indiana College Robert H. McKinney School of Law, as a distinguished scholar and ambassador at huge, the college announced Wednesday.
Brooks, 60, a Republican who represented Indiana’s 5th Congressional District from 2013 to 2021, is scheduled to start out in the drop 2021 semester by co-teaching a study course on law and management with previous IU McKinney Dean Andrew Klein. She will carry a broad assortment of expertise to the classroom, having practiced in the public and private sectors as nicely as doing the job as in-dwelling counsel prior to moving into politics.

Brooks, a 1985 graduate of IU McKinney, returned to Indiana after deciding not to run for a fifth term in Washington, D.C. Whilst in Congress, she served on the Strength and Commerce Committee, chaired the Dwelling Ethics Committee, co-chaired the Bipartisan Women’s Caucus and was a member of the Decide on Committee on the Modernization of Congress.
In 2015, Brooks, alongside with previous Rep. Joe Kennedy III, D-Massachusetts, started the Access to Civil Legal Services Caucus, which advocates for plans that provide small-earnings family members with authorized sources and representation.
“I am thrilled to have the option to give back to the faculty that established me on my vocation path of general public and private assistance,” Brooks explained. “It definitely is an honor to be equipped to share my experiences with IU McKinney college students and faculty, and perhaps have some little impression on the present-day and foreseeable future generations of legal minds and public servants.”
Prior to her assistance in Congress, Brooks was general counsel and senior vice president for workforce and economic advancement at Ivy Tech Local community School. In 2001, she was appointed U. S. lawyer for the Southern District of Indiana by President George W. Bush, serving 6 decades at that post.
She has also labored in the government solutions practice team at the law company of Ice Miller and served two many years as deputy mayor of Indianapolis beneath Mayor Stephen Goldsmith, focusing on crime, the felony justice method and social welfare challenges. Brooks began her job as a legal defense attorney, performing for 13 years with the legislation business McClure, McClure & Kammen.
